Hiking Update

Image
Well it's been a hot minute since I've updated on the ole blogspot. So .. here's the latest After my triathlon in June I all but stopped any triathlon style training. I was running one to two times a week and had "planned" on swimming outside while the weather was nice... but we know how plans can go sometimes. I was riding my bike to and from work (a whopping 30 mins total) and going on the odd ride here and there but for the most part things just came to a stand still. I did sign up for a standard or Olympic length triathlon in Cultus Lake for Sept. But, when you stop training are you really prepared? They closed the pool at my gym and I'm already paying 50$ a month to attend and ended up finding more excuses as to why I couldn't pay a drop in fee somewhere else and train. I also ended up getting sick right around the beginning of August and with the fires and smoke in the area (air quality) I also stopped running and riding outside. I still enjoy...

Half Iron Man

Image
So it's been a hot minute since I've updated this bloggity. In May I reached my goal - I did the Run for Water in Abbotsford, BC. A half marathon (21km) and got my best time yet! 2:05:30 I also have been playing softball. We've done really well this year. Not undefeated but pretty darn good. I had a tournament the same weekend as the half marathon. I played 3 games saturday then ran the half and played  2 more games. To say the least, I was tired the next day! My legs were so tight and sore and I was only 7 days away from the Oliver Half iron man! In a previous post I mentioned that I purchased a road bike. My trusty Norco (named Marco) and some outdoor training, recovery and focusing on sleeping I was ready! Ok, so I was a little nervous the week of. I was SO sore from the run and nervous that I had made a poor decision in doing a half marathon the week before a half iron man. I booked a massage with the local RMT (she's located across the hall from my main o...

2018 fitness goals

Considering this blog is " diary of a fit girl" fitness resolutions seem appropriate So, for 2018 here are some of the goals I'm currently working towards - the run for water, abbotsford bc (may) - WCOC half ironman,  oliver bc (june) - hiking a volcano, mt st hellens Washington (oct) So ...some big shit I have bought a bike! It' a 2012 Norco I got it second hand (TY Pinkbike. Com) & when the weather was a little friendlier I went out for some road rides.  Unfortunately it has been snowing quite a bit recently and I'm not into riding in the snow haha I have been going to spin classes spending some time indoors on the bikes and attending a running group. There is a lovely (free) group of ladies that meets in the tri cities on tues nights and it's nice to commit to the training be outside and have some other people for safety. I even ran in the snow last week I've got my sights set on the run for water next May.  I've done one half marathon...

I don't know how much I weigh

Yes. You read that correctly. I do not know how much I weigh. I stopped weighing myself at the end of September. This was also the time I did my final check-in with my fitness Coach. I quit my fitness team at the end of Sept. Blessed Bodies. I have weighed myself on and off for the past 4 years or so. Started before we got married, I weighed approx 135 lbs. I had started following a "diet plan" that I had bought from an online coach that I'd seen someone else using for a fitness competition. I had not yet started training for competitions but it was def on my radar at that time. 2013 - the year that I got married, and the year that my " fitness journey" really started. It was the year I trained for my first half marathon with two girlfriends. It was the year that I saw the "I  want to look like that guy" documentary and the fall of 2013 I contacted my fitness coach Fatima to talk to her about taking me on as a client. From Jan 2014 to Sept 20...

Sprint Triathlon - RECAP

Image
Well... I finished my race on June 3 2017. Today is August 13, 2017 So, it's been a minute since I've been online. At least in blog land. I did, however update another thoughts post from before the triathlon. To recap .. I was sick right before my race. It really messed with my mental game. I was unable to donate blood before hand too which had been a personal goal of mine. I had been 'meaning to' donate for (literally) years and never did. I finally did last december and then proceeded to get quite sick afterwards with a head cold. I had what I think could have been a sinus infection. I had zero fluid movement from my face and it was stiff and hard. Not able to taste for almost a week. I had to hold my breath in order to eat food, because my face was so stuffed up I looked up any and all remedies! I did sinus massages, espsom salts, essential oils, diffusers, hot compress, eating whole cloves of garlic.. I did get a bit better before the race. I also had a ...

2 wks till Tri time

*Back dated post so ...my SPRINT triathlon is this weekend.. I have to get through tmrw at work then the extended drive and then the big race day! There's a level of stress that's rising.. I haven't gotten better. I'm also not worse either. I am nervous about the swimming  I went swimming again with my gf on sunday and it was hard. not as bad as it was the first time but I still had a really hard time. I think part of it has to do with being sick but the other part is in my head. I have some anxiety about open water and not being able to see everything like you can in the pool. I'm going to go swimming in the pool tonight to just settle my nerves and otherwise I've been taking it really easy. I still did weight training on mon and tues even though I was pretty tired on tues. I did a brick workout on tues also where I biked 19 km and then ran for 3 km so that was good because I felt really good afterwards.  Tonights goal is just to be in the water and practice...
