A birth story

Image
Well, here it is... my birth story **there is dialogue that could be considered TMI to some, you have been warned I had been told that everyones story is different and I didn't doubt this to be true but I was curious what others went through before my own journey into parenthood. They   were right, my story is very much my own. Here we are 4+ wks later and I'm here for an update to recant the news My husband and I welcomed a little boy on tues April 16, 2019 I finished work on April 2nd  and then it was getting things ready, organizing the babies room and setting up the crib. I even re arranged my room when my husband was out of town (because he would never have let me move things on my own) haha Friday April 12 I wake up overnight with .. cramps. I was told this could be the very earliest stages of things to come... as in maybe the next week? They were similar to period cramps, they woke me up several times throughout the night Saturday April 13 - I start havi...

Pregnancy - a Recap

Image
So here we are MAT leave. Today is sunday March 31, I am "due" with my first babe April 8th. On the eve of 39 weeks pregnant and my last day of work was yesterday Weird. I know, I've been pregnant since July. It's not like this is a new development. I have a healthy and active baby (still growing) and I've been feeling really good. However, it still doesn't seem real that I'm going to have a physical baby very soon Let's Recap: If you've followId along at all through my previous posts I'm someone who is "busy" I glorify being busy for sure. There are people who do less than me and there are people who do more. I work three jobs (works out to 6 days a week most weeks) I play softball, do triathlon, attempt a social life and go to the gym frequently. Prior to becoming pregnant I did a half iron man triathlon. I was in the gym between 5 & 7 days a week. I ate a pretty restricted diet. (No one told me to, I just did) I was fa...

The Pre-baby story -- a journey through fertility (or lack there of)

Well considering it's halfway through Feb I feel as though another update is in order. In my last post I mentioned that my husband and I are expecting. Our first baby is due April 2019. No, we do not know the gender it's going to be a surprise :) I figured I'd do a little recap of how things have gone thus far... To start things off my husband and I have been together for almost 15 yrs, married for 5+ No, we were not high school sweethearts. I met him the summer I graduated high school. (2004) We were young, both hadn't dated many others and we took things slowly.... waited 5 yrs to move in together 7 + yrs to get married and another 5 to have a baby haha Now, being a 'responsible' young adult I was on the pill as I was basically terrified to get pregnant by mistake. I have always felt like I would have a family at some point. Even 10 yrs ago I would have told you I'd like to be "done having kids" by 30. Now, at 32 I'm expecting my first ...

A year in Review {2018}

Image
As the year is literally coming to a close... its like 4pm we getting closer and closer to the grand finale. I see a lot of people / memes online talking about how hard the year was. I personally didn't have a "hard" year. Sure there are lessons learned and hard parts to anyone's life let alone a year at a glance but overall I look back on 2018 with good feelings December 2017 / January 2018 We rang in the new year in Australia. My first time visiting, my husband was born there and my father in law and brother in law currently reside there as well Avalon beach Iconic Bondi Beach Katoomba & Cowan We stayed for three weeks and saw quite  a few things. Highlights for me included, being there period! Celebrating Christmas at summer time, several hikes and seeing the Jonolan Caves. I got to try driving on the other side of the road which was also interesting FEB - 2018 Travel seemed to be a theme this year. In Feb alone I got to go to Toronto a...

Christmas Time

Finally time to have some time off. I've been steadily working 6 days a week for the last little while and I'm finding myself quite tired. I have been hitting the gym 4x a week lately and when I have sundays off.. I take the day entirely off. As in... do absolutely nothing. Which would be good for my physical health to slow down but my mental health tends to suffer. Trying to find a little in the middle. We (my husband and I) have been 'meaning' to clean out our spare bedroom which has quickly become the 'junk room' and it's a source of stress The tree is up! the decorations are on and I've even gotten some things off to donation (thanks instagram!) and that lovely husband of mine went through and organised the spare bedroom yesterday while I was at a holiday party. Not much to report. This time last year we were in Australia and summer weather. I'm really day dreaming about another trip. Doesn't have to be as elaborate as our trip to austral...

Bucket List Hikes

Image
I don't know if everyone has a " bucket list" or Life list ... I don't have an official list. I would say that I have a few items I would really like to do and it is certainly not a finished list. One item that was def on the list was hiking a volcano. You may have noticed from previous posts that I enjoy a good hike here in there. Living / growing up in the Fraser Valley hikes have always been accessible. If you want something easy there's always something close to home. If you want something harder? You can drive and hour or two in almost any direction and get some pretty cool hikes in. Some of my fave hikes include a high reward at the end. Whether a glacier, mountain, waterfall or just some scenic views it's almost always worth while. I've been scared on some hikes, worried about wild life and learned some things along the way. Now, in my hiking (day) pack I make sure to have lots of water, extra food and a first aid kit. Recently, I a...

Hiking Update

Image
Well it's been a hot minute since I've updated on the ole blogspot. So .. here's the latest After my triathlon in June I all but stopped any triathlon style training. I was running one to two times a week and had "planned" on swimming outside while the weather was nice... but we know how plans can go sometimes. I was riding my bike to and from work (a whopping 30 mins total) and going on the odd ride here and there but for the most part things just came to a stand still. I did sign up for a standard or Olympic length triathlon in Cultus Lake for Sept. But, when you stop training are you really prepared? They closed the pool at my gym and I'm already paying 50$ a month to attend and ended up finding more excuses as to why I couldn't pay a drop in fee somewhere else and train. I also ended up getting sick right around the beginning of August and with the fires and smoke in the area (air quality) I also stopped running and riding outside. I still enjoy...
