A year in Review {2018}

Image
As the year is literally coming to a close... its like 4pm we getting closer and closer to the grand finale. I see a lot of people / memes online talking about how hard the year was. I personally didn't have a "hard" year. Sure there are lessons learned and hard parts to anyone's life let alone a year at a glance but overall I look back on 2018 with good feelings December 2017 / January 2018 We rang in the new year in Australia. My first time visiting, my husband was born there and my father in law and brother in law currently reside there as well Avalon beach Iconic Bondi Beach Katoomba & Cowan We stayed for three weeks and saw quite  a few things. Highlights for me included, being there period! Celebrating Christmas at summer time, several hikes and seeing the Jonolan Caves. I got to try driving on the other side of the road which was also interesting FEB - 2018 Travel seemed to be a theme this year. In Feb alone I got to go to Toronto a

Christmas Time

Finally time to have some time off. I've been steadily working 6 days a week for the last little while and I'm finding myself quite tired. I have been hitting the gym 4x a week lately and when I have sundays off.. I take the day entirely off. As in... do absolutely nothing. Which would be good for my physical health to slow down but my mental health tends to suffer. Trying to find a little in the middle. We (my husband and I) have been 'meaning' to clean out our spare bedroom which has quickly become the 'junk room' and it's a source of stress The tree is up! the decorations are on and I've even gotten some things off to donation (thanks instagram!) and that lovely husband of mine went through and organised the spare bedroom yesterday while I was at a holiday party. Not much to report. This time last year we were in Australia and summer weather. I'm really day dreaming about another trip. Doesn't have to be as elaborate as our trip to austral

Bucket List Hikes

Image
I don't know if everyone has a " bucket list" or Life list ... I don't have an official list. I would say that I have a few items I would really like to do and it is certainly not a finished list. One item that was def on the list was hiking a volcano. You may have noticed from previous posts that I enjoy a good hike here in there. Living / growing up in the Fraser Valley hikes have always been accessible. If you want something easy there's always something close to home. If you want something harder? You can drive and hour or two in almost any direction and get some pretty cool hikes in. Some of my fave hikes include a high reward at the end. Whether a glacier, mountain, waterfall or just some scenic views it's almost always worth while. I've been scared on some hikes, worried about wild life and learned some things along the way. Now, in my hiking (day) pack I make sure to have lots of water, extra food and a first aid kit. Recently, I a

Hiking Update

Image
Well it's been a hot minute since I've updated on the ole blogspot. So .. here's the latest After my triathlon in June I all but stopped any triathlon style training. I was running one to two times a week and had "planned" on swimming outside while the weather was nice... but we know how plans can go sometimes. I was riding my bike to and from work (a whopping 30 mins total) and going on the odd ride here and there but for the most part things just came to a stand still. I did sign up for a standard or Olympic length triathlon in Cultus Lake for Sept. But, when you stop training are you really prepared? They closed the pool at my gym and I'm already paying 50$ a month to attend and ended up finding more excuses as to why I couldn't pay a drop in fee somewhere else and train. I also ended up getting sick right around the beginning of August and with the fires and smoke in the area (air quality) I also stopped running and riding outside. I still enjoy

Half Iron Man

So it's been a hot minute since I've updated this bloggity. In May I reached my goal - I did the Run for Water in Abbotsford, BC. A half marathon (21km) and got my best time yet! 2:05:30 I also have been playing softball. We've done really well this year. Not undefeated but pretty darn good. I had a tournament the same weekend as the half marathon. I played 3 games saturday then ran the half and played  2 more games. To say the least, I was tired the next day! My legs were so tight and sore and I was only 7 days away from the Oliver Half iron man! In a previous post I mentioned that I purchased a road bike. My trusty Norco (named Marco) and some outdoor training, recovery and focusing on sleeping I was ready! Ok, so I was a little nervous the week of. I was SO sore from the run and nervous that I had made a poor decision in doing a half marathon the week before a half iron man. I booked a massage with the local RMT (she's located across the hall from my main o

2018 fitness goals

Considering this blog is " diary of a fit girl" fitness resolutions seem appropriate So, for 2018 here are some of the goals I'm currently working towards - the run for water, abbotsford bc (may) - WCOC half ironman,  oliver bc (june) - hiking a volcano, mt st hellens Washington (oct) So ...some big shit I have bought a bike! It' a 2012 Norco I got it second hand (TY Pinkbike. Com) & when the weather was a little friendlier I went out for some road rides.  Unfortunately it has been snowing quite a bit recently and I'm not into riding in the snow haha I have been going to spin classes spending some time indoors on the bikes and attending a running group. There is a lovely (free) group of ladies that meets in the tri cities on tues nights and it's nice to commit to the training be outside and have some other people for safety. I even ran in the snow last week I've got my sights set on the run for water next May.  I've done one half marathon
